Owen Ganor is a clarinet performance and biology student at Oberlin College & Conservatory, where he studies with Richard Hawkins. Prior to his time at Oberlin, Owen studied with Meghan Colbert as well as Daniel McKelway, assistant principal & Eb clarinet of The Cleveland Orchestra.
Owen is primarily self taught in general woodwind repair techniques, beginning when he was only 12 years old. Now, he specializes in advanced clarinet repair and customization, with many of those techniques learned directly from the bench of Morrie Backun, founder of Backun Musical Services. Owen continues to refine his skills through diligent practice, resulting in truly exceptional work on the instruments that go through his shop.
Owen uses only the finest tools and supplies, sourced from global leaders in instrument manufacturing, even making his own tools when the need arises. He has extensive experience working not only on standard soprano clarinets, but also E-flats, basses, basset horns, and contra clarinets.
As a performer, Owen has a particular affinity with the low clarinets, especially the contrabass clarinet.
Owen performs on Backun Lumière Bb & A clarinets, a Backun Q Series bass clarinet, and a Yamaha Custom Eb clarinet.
Owen Ganor is an active member of the International Clarinet Association (ICA) and National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT).
